Wow. It’s already time to make some blending decisions on where our wines will go for this past vintage. Time really flies when you’re running your own business! We’ll spend the next 2 weeks tasting through the barrels (and spitting) trying to determine which barrels might be candidates for our 2011 Reserve Pinot Noir. Out of this group we’ll narrow the selection down to a blend that has a full body, balance, depth, and longevity that will make our reserve stand up to the test of time. This is always the most fun and most difficult blend to put together. Next, we’ll decide if any of the barrels could be made into a vineyard designate blend. These barrels really have to shine and have a powerful expression of place for us to make a vineyard designate. We don’t do them every year just to do them. That’s always been our philosophy when making blends. While we’re busy tasting, my sister Amy is putting together the design files for our new wine labels for our upcoming bottling run in August. She does a great job designing our labels and I can’t wait to see what she comes up with for all of our new wines that we’ll be releasing next year! Stay tuned for some tasting notes on our barrels next week!
cheers,
Matt
